Google Walkout Proves Women (And Men) Are Fed Up With Patriarchal Policies #GoogleWalkout #equalpay #diversity #inclusion #metoo #womeninvest

What’s needed now is broad, impactful, institutional change. Without that, nothing will ever change.


Yesterday, Google employees had enough. In an article published in The Cut, the organizers of a company-wide walk-out that includes thousands of employees demanded “an end to the sexual harassment, discrimination, and the systemic racism that fuel this destructive culture.”

In the era of protest marches and resistance, this feels entirely on-target—and not surprising at all. I recently had a conversation with an MBA student—a woman in her mid-twenties, who told me, “Our generation doesn’t want to be told to ‘lean in’ or ‘lean sideways’ or lean any other way. While I respect Sheryl Sandberg, and the conversation she prompted, we’re tired of being told what we have to do as women in order to achieve equity. What’s needed now is broad, impactful, institutional change. Without that, nothing will ever change. ”

While today it’s Google, it could have been any company. This is a time when employees, many of whom have historically been underrepresented in the workplace, are fed up with waiting for change. People want action, and I agree that these steps outlined by the Google protesters are critical to moving forward:
